Concept: With a Rotten Tomatoes meter of 95% freshness no question THE DARK KNIGHT is the best Batman movie ever, the best superhero movie ever and the best movie of 2008.
But there are some opportunities for a fanedit.
Initially, the story unwinds with poise keeping up with the "A" elements, however, at about midway, new plots are introduced diluting some otherwise well-earned momentum. It's a long movie anyway, but after that midpoint, it just begins to feel relentless and a little tedious.
The action sequences are a tad incoherent. Specially the one in the building with the Doctors and Hostages and Sonar and Lucious Fox.
The same with the Armoured truck chase scene.
My attention went also to Harvey Dent whose story doesn't get rolling until well into Act 3. Often the comment is that Harvey's story should have been saved for another movie, mainly because by the time it is revealed the audience is exhausted. But THE DARK KNIGHT is really Harvey's movie. Neither Batman nor the Joker are changed by the end of the movie to the extent that Harvey is transformed.

This is THE DARK KNIGHT and a simple trim job as mentioned in the "Cut/Added" would not suffice.
And since this is Christopher Nolan, I decide that for a NEW ride and to address the Two-Face issue I would completely eschew the linear storytelling and replace it with Nolan's own style from MEMENTO.
the film is now structured backwards and forwards, so that Harvey's past and future appear to be interconnected from both ends, directly affecting his present.

This nonlinear narrative structure challenges the conventional rules of plot construction and defies the standard notion that a film's scenes must advance chronologically. It makes the audiences understand the film in a new way by making new cause-and-effect connections between the scenes. Each beat of information must relate to what comes before and after, even if a scene transcends the chronological order of time. In nonlinear films, relationships created between the various time segments form a specific meaning when taken all together.

The film's events unfold in two separate, alternating narratives. One in color, and the other in black and white.
The black and white sections are told in Forward Chronological order.
The color sequences are in Reverse Chronological order.
The result is hopefully a new ride with some wonderful fresh thrills along the way.

Enjoy.

SPAWN OF FRANKENSTEIN

What is it about? This remix of FRANKENSTEIN and BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN aims for a serious tone by removing all comedy relief, not humanizing the Monster and having a darker ending.

Original film name: remix of FRANKENSTEIN and BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN.
Film studio name: Universal Studios

  • - trimmed most scenes for pace.
  • - Re-cut little Maria’s scene.

  • Menus 16.9
  • Scene Selection Menus
  • presented in 1:85:1
  • Bonus trailers

Concept: FRANKENSTEIN is a brilliant film. Decades ahead of it’s time. Karloff portrayal of the Monster is visceral and vicious.
However the sequel BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN changed all that. they succeeded in humanizing the monster. He now emotes and has pathos. For his sins he is crucified and thrown into a dungeon. cries because he wants a friend, falls in love and has his heart broken. Add to this the comedy relief of Minnie the Housekeeper and the Burgomaster and the sequel loses it for me. So the attempt is to streamline both films together while keeping the flavor of the original.

ROUGH BEAST: Remixed by Jorge
A Predator 2 fanedit

What is it about? PREDATOR II gets a meaner, faster, hard boiled version.

Original film name: PREDATOR II
Film studio name: 20th Century Fox
Original Film Released: 21 November 1990
Fan Edit Released: December, 2007
Original Runtime: 108 min
New Runtime: 60 min

Amount of time Cut/Added: eh… quite a bit.

Cuts removed/added/extended:

  • All profanities are gone. it’s not that I hate profanity, it just seem like bad writing.
  • Trim the awkward scenes.
  • The sex scene is gone. See above
  • Bill Paxton’s character humor is gone.
  • Maria Conchita Alonso… mostly gone.
  • Morton Downey Jr.’s gone.
  • Many more trims to remember.

DVD - Features:

  • Menus
  • Scene Selection Menus
  • presented in 1:85:1
  • ipod version of the movie

Conceptual improvements/advancements of edit over original: Half as taut and twice as dumb. Every good monster movie deserves a sequel, and with few exceptions they get a crappy one. Predator 2 is right in line with that legacy, a lackluster (and Schwarzenegger-free) action flick that steals every page it can from the Aliens playbook. Since Predator took place in the jungle, Hollywood’s sense of irony dictates that the sequel should take place in the city: In this case, Los Angeles, where a bloody gang war is underway. But from the one guy that wants to capture the Predator instead of kill it to the assault team that goes after it and gets completely decimated, everything about Predator 2 feels very familiar and boring. Danny Glover as Lt. Harrigan, wearing baggy grandpa pants but swearing like a sailor, is an odd choice for an action hero, and the film hilariously pairs him with the always-insane Gary Busey as a mysterious government operative who seems to know a lot about the city's resident invisible extraterrestrial. The bulk of the film is kind of nonsensical: Why the alien is here, why Glover cares about stopping this gang war, and why the Predator doesn’t just leave when the going gets rough… these are questions that never get answered. And you’re not supposed to care, since the action doesn’t stop, the weapons are updated, and the gore is extreme (with the original cut earning an NC-17 due to violence). The acting in the movie is applied hysteria. Glover, so engaging as a different kind of cop in the “Lethal Weapon” movies, screams and sweats, swears and climbs down tall buildings. He is assisted by a Latino woman, played by the wonderful Maria Conchita Alonso, whose idea of creating an identity for herself at headquarters is to grab a new guy by the crotch until he pleads for mercy. The dialogue is foul and clinical, and the special effects, while expensive, are not interesting. So we clean up P2 and dress it up nice as ROUGH BEAST. Enjoy!

We lose Mr. M. Knight Shyamalan’s cameo.
Added a deleted scene.
Many cuts and trims to remember.

DVD - Features:

  • Menus
  • Scene Selection Menus
  • presented in 1:85:1

Conceptual improvements/advancements of edit over original: The third in a series of wonderful films directed by M. Knight Shyamalan. I love the film but must confess I am always taken away from the story when it comes to the director’s ubiquitous cameo. So this fanedits eliminates his role and tightens up the action. With an additional deleted scene, I hope this becomes a fresh new ride.

MEMENTO MORI: Remixed by Jorge

What is it about? The movie in chronological order, but this time as a real movie

Conceptual improvements/advancements of edit over original:

  • Remember your Death. This awesome film is already available in chronological order in the special edition dvd… except, its done as a dvd branching option. there were a lot of fades to black and the movie doesn’t flow like a movie. So it gets remixed.

HULK: Remixed by Jorge

What is it about? HULK HATE FILM. HULK HAVE TO WAIT HOUR BEFORE AUDIENCE SEES HULK. HULK DON’T TALK. HULK DON’T CRUSH PUNY HUMANS. STUPID BANNER GETS GIRL. HULK WILL SMASH ANG LEE IF HULK SEES ANG LEE WALKING ON STREET!

original film name: Hulk

film studio name: Universal Studios
Original Film Released: 20 June, 2003

Fan Edit Released: 27 June, 2007
Original Runtime: 138 mins.
New Runtime: 59 mins. of pure Hulk-Out!
Amount of time Cut/Added: You do the math.

Cuts removed/added/extended:

- Lose the opening credits, backstory.
- Start with CBS report and the Banner Journals.
- Then with the Test on the frog.
- After accident, soon changes into Hulk.
- Lose the Central America ending. Now the Hulk is still running free.
- Many more cuts.

DVD - Features:

Menus
Scene Selection Menus
presented in 1:85::01

Conceptual improvements/advancements of edit over original:

  • As much as I admire HULK, it didn’t lend itself to repeated viewing. Ang Lee’s film is a thinking man’s Hulk. But hey, you know, sometimes you just want kick ass action and what little action there was in HULK, it was lost admist the angst and inner turmoil of the characters. We lose the backstory, the flashbacks, tighten up the action. Starts with the Accident at the lab and try to keep the Hulk on screen as much as possible.

DUEL: Remixed by Jorge

What is it about? Try to make it more mysterious and thrilling as we change the aspect ratio from 1:33;1 to a whopping 2:35;1.

Original film name: DUEL
Film studio name: Universal
Original Film Released: 10 November, 1971
Fan Edit Released: 9 May, 2007

- Many cuts and trims to remember.

DVD - Features:

  • Menus
  • Scene Selection Menus
  • presented in 2:35:01

Conceptual improvements/advancements of edit over original:In the DVD documentary, Spielberg observes that the fear of the unknown is perhaps the greatest fear of all and that Duel plays heavily to that fear. Throughout the film, the driver of the truck remains anonymous and unseen. His motives for targeting Weaver's character are never revealed. To complement this concept, Remixed by Jorge has eliminated the reasuring voice over, we eliminated the restaurant stop and tightened up all thhttp://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gife action.Despite its simple plot, a low budget (only $375,000) and very short filming deadlines (originally 10 days), the movie maintains a high level of suspense due to Spielberg's taut direction, tight editing and the script's refusal to resolve the central mystery of the driver.

DARKEST CITY: Remixed by Jorge

What is it about? Try to make it more mysterious and puzzling. Re-ordered some scenes and gave it some fresh music cues.
Original film name: DARK CITY
Film studio name: New Line Cinema
Original Film Released: 27 February, 1998
Fan Edit Released: 26 April 2007

  • Scene Selection Menus

Conceptual improvements/advancements of edit over original:
DARK CITY, the amazing film directed by Alex Proyas, has always had a special place in my heart.
And while thinking about my next fan edit, I remembered the audio commentary, were Proyas reveals that the voice over at the beginning of the film was dictated upon by the studio. That’s all it took. Remixed by Jorge’s attempt is not to speed up the action (it’s already fast) but instead, to not give away too soon what the film is about. More mystery. Hope you enjoy.

SPECTRES FROM SPACE: Remixed by Jorge
A Final Fantasy The Spirits Within fanedit

What is it about? This fan editing exercise removes most of the Gaia enviromental message, tightens up the pace for a more exciting ride, exorcises ackward romantic subplot and reworks the ending.
Original film name: FINAL FANTASY: THE SPIRITS WITHIN
film studio name: Square Pictures.
Original Film Released: July 11, 2001
Fan Edit Released: April 16, 2007
Original Runtime: 106 min
New Runtime: 64 min
Amount of time Cut/Added: You do the math.

Cuts removed/added/extended:

  • - Many cuts and trims to remember.

DVD - Features:

  • Menus
  • Scene Selection Menus
  • presented in 1:85:1
Conceptual improvements/advancements of edit over original:
Without a doubt this is the best movie ever made based on a video game. But thats not saying much. A major technical achievement. the work that went into it spans years, the technology to do it was invented on the fly, and it was all done by a company that had never done a film before. the story is well written and incredibly smart but perhaps a bit too serious and spiritual for western audiences. Explanations about Gaia and 8 spirits and such had me drifting off. So Remixed by Jorge tries to reduce the spiritial/new age messages and speed up the action.

HELLBLAZER: Remixed by Jorge
A Constantine fanedit

What is it about? Using all the deleted scenes, re-arranging some material and deleting other material, we refocus the story on John Constantine.
How to get it? via RAPIDSHARE original film name: Constantine

  • Added and reworked all the deleted scenes.
  • Reworked the opening.
  • New opening credit montage.
  • Deleted all the travels of the Spear.
  • Added new music cues.

Conceptual improvements/advancements of edit over original:
I don’t consider CONSTANTINE a flawed film. But there were a lot of deleted scenes and some elements that I thought we could lose to focus the film more on John. Also the character of Ellie (who ended up in the deleted scenes) is now fully explored.

SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW: Remixed by Jorge

What is it about? This was made to bring the ol’ Cap to the new millennium. Tighter pacing, jettison what doesn’t work or slows down the movie and torpedo glaring logic holes, painful romantic chemistry and humor that falls flat.
Film studio: Paramount Pictures
Original Film Released: September 17, 2004
Date Funedit Released: February 2007

Funedit Runtime: 1 hour 9 mins.

CONCEPT
The visual success of this film deserves that first time Director Kerry Conran be showered with all manner of accolades, but the most important things that make a movie great are missing.

Half of “Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow” is a film of breathtaking vision and craftsmanship, a work of art that both summarizes the early history of cinema and takes it brilliantly, shimmeringly forward.
The other half is not. Ultimately the movie is immensely stylish, fantastically retro-looking, and an utter bore.

Cuts removed/added/extended:

  • - Moved the opening titles to the end. Now the film starts quiet and mysterious.
  • - Deleted The hand crossing out names. Who is that? Totenkopf’s mysterious oriental agent is a robot. She needs a list?
  • - Deleted Sky Captain holding a gun on Polly. If you’re going to point a gun at somebody, you better shoot.
  • - Deleted Polly being a klutz, always doing the wrong thing. Now she’s a competent reporter.
  • - Deleted the bickering and snipping that was supposed to pass for romantic chemistry.
  • - Deleted scenes of Dex for pacing.
  • - Deleted any dialogue meant to be funny that wasn’t.
  • - Deleted any dialogue were a character says “I’m going to do…” Now they just do it.
  • - Kaji has a mind of his own. He speaks without being prompted by Sky Captain.
  • - Added scenes from original 6 min. movie into robot sequence. 15 secs. Added tint.
  • - Added deleted scene “Totenkopf’s Torture Room” with music from “The Ring” 1 min. 6 secs.
  • - Reworked the end credits. New end credit sound track also RemiXed by Jorge.
  • - Added surprise ending after the end credits. You must watch till the last frame.

Conceptual improvements/advancements of edit over original: “Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow” is based on the popular serials of the 1930s and 1940s. Written and Directed by Kerry Conran, This homage to serials is far too faithful to its origins. Conran gleefully adopts the logic holes, adolescent romantic attitudes, discontinuities and plot conveniences that were standard in movie serials because of low budgets, fast shooting schedules, simplistic scripts and the nature of their intended audience. So we get gorgeous special effects, cliffhanger action sequences as well as stilted dialogue, flat script, negligible plot, missing details, inaccuracies and a lack of continuity.
Sky Captain started in the very best way a movie can: with a vision and a passion. Kerry had been making this movie for 6 years, in his computer, all CG. And he was making it all on his own. I find that kind of dedication admirable. I always want people like this to succeed with their projects, for the results of their up-late-at-night-after-work machinations to become interesting, wonderful movies. It’s too bad this one falls short of the mark.

TOMB RAIDERS OF THE OZ SPACE ARK vs THE MAD SCIENTIST’S DEADLY ROBOTS ON MONSTER ISLAND! Although the movie had high box office expectations, opening at #1 on its September release date, the movie was a flop at the box office grossing only about $37 million in the United States from a reported $70+ million budget. Critical reviews, while largely positive, still didn’t drive audiences to the theatre. The film garnered positive reviews with 73% of national film critics praising the film. I guess audiences weren’t really clamoring for a painfully authentic and derivative movie serial from the 1930’s, no matter what the critics said.

CAST AWAY: Remixed by Jorge

What is it about? Where’s Wilson? A brave attempt by Tom Hanks/ Robert Zemeckis that is only marred in its authenticity by the need to bring a second character on the island. Wilson the ball. So I remove Wilson and ALL the talking on the island.

original film name: Cast Away
film studio name: 20th Century Fox
Original Film Released: June 12, 2001
Fan Edit Released: February 8, 2007
Original Runtime: 143 min
New Runtime: 104 min

Removed crossroads opening and introduction of future love interest. They never meet.
Removed cutesy sequence in Russia. Try to keep it serious.
Trimmed Opening speech by Chuck. Too aware of itself.
Trimmed airport scene with Kelly.
Removed Chuck seeing the island at night. Now he just wakes on the island.
Removed Chuck calling out “Hello”. In fact, removed all dialogue on the island.
Removed Wilson the ball. He makes a small appearance when he opens the FedEx packages… but he’s just a ball.
Trimmed Kelly and Chuck reunion.
Re-edited Ending. No new potential love interest.
Many more cuts and trims to remember.

DVD - Features:
Menus
Scene Selection Menus
presented in 1:85:1

Conceptual improvements/advancements of edit over original:
The Tom Hank/ Robert Zemeckis collaboration was a bold attempt at experimentation within the confines of a Hollywood studio. So Remixed by Jorge’s effort was to continue in that spirit of experimentation by trimming and sometimes removing obvious Hollywood filmmaking and script conventions. Of these, the most painful for me was Wilson the ball. Chuck only manages to make fire after Wilson shows up. It’s Wilson who reminds Chuck were he can find 30 feet of much needed rope. Wilson who soothes Chuck’s fears when he can’t sleep. Chuck is heartbroken and waling with tears not when he loses Kelly but when he loses… Wilson.
Of course my attempt is to remove Wilson as a character in the film. Wilson will still show up here and there but he’s just a ball.
With Wilson out of the film we discover a new Chuck. The one that managed to survive a plane crash and eventually rescue himself.
Also gone is the implied happy ending with the artist in the desert. Chuck never meets her. He doesn’t need her to save himself.

KILL BILL X: Remixed by Jorge

What is it about? A chronological, trimmer, meaner, faster, hard boiled version with no happy Hollywood ending.

Kill Bill 1 was outlandishly violent and bloody. Kill Bill 2 in comparison was slow moving but much more effective. Since it was originally one movie, the attempt was to create a trimmer, meaner, faster, hard boiled version with no happy Hollywood ending. It’s also in chronological order.
